In 2002, Desert Pea Media was formed by a group of undergraduate community arts workers studying at CSU, Bathurst campus who aspired to provide a unique social contribution to Australia’s cultural landscape.
Our first project was a 3 week integrated arts workshop program conducted in Broken Hill, NSW. Initially, this led to a continuous stream of workshop programs around regional communities in NSW and later, all around Australia – empowering and re-connecting indigenous young people to community, culture & country.
The current Desert Pea Media team continues to develop and deliver innovative programs in communities around Australia, also producing commercial indigenous media for Government and other agencies. Archiving culture, educating and supporting communities to evolve and sustain cultural protocol is our mission.
Our company structure originates from the ‘Makhampom Theatre Group’ who formed over 25 years ago in Bangkok, Thailand. This groundbreaking community theatre group is widely recognised for sustainable community development workshop programs and touring theatre productions.
We continue to develop programs based on our original purpose, with a focus on professional development and providing long-term, sustainable multimedia mentoring programs with marginalized Aboriginal communities.
